The workshop titled “Circular City Hackathon: Data-Driven Urban Mapping” and supported under the EELISA 5th Joint Workshop Call aims to contribute to transforming the built environment through digital transformation—from a waste-producing model to a circular, resource-efficient system. Through a hybrid format (online + in-person), the program will equip students with the knowledge, skills, and innovative tools needed to apply circular and sustainable design principles in the fight against climate change.

The event will take place in Istanbul on 28–30 January 2026 and consists of two main phases:

Online Learning Phase (Pre-Hackathon Seminars) Two online seminars will introduce key topics such as urban informatics and its role in circular urban planning, preparing participants for real-world data analysis, GIS tools, and urban sustainability frameworks.

In-Person Event: 3-Day Circular City Hackathon (Istanbul) Participants will engage in an intensive, hands-on process to analyze circular production and consumption cycles in Istanbul’s urban core using data-driven methods. The hackathon will integrate big data analytics and GIS mapping to develop innovative solutions for circular urban development.

Applications are open to undergraduate and graduate students in architecture, urban design, and related fields.
